== Summary ==

''Philip J. Fry'', a young and underachieving delivery worker, is employed at a local pizza parlour when he is dispatched to deliver an order to a ''cryogenics'' laboratory. Upon arriving at the facility, he finds it apparently deserted and, while searching for the intended recipient, accidentally falls into an open cryogenic chamber. As a result, he is frozen for one thousand years.

Fry awakens on ''31 December 2999'', emerging into a radically transformed future society. After initial disorientation, he becomes employed as a delivery boy at ''Planet Express'', an interplanetary courier service founded by his distant relative, ''Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth'', an eccentric and elderly inventor.

At Planet Express, Fry works alongside ''Turanga Leela'', a one‑eyed mutant serving as the ship’s competent captain; ''Bender Bending Rodríguez'', a hard‑drinking, chain‑smoking bending robot; ''Hermes Conrad'', a bureaucratically minded Jamaican accountant; ''Dr. John A. Zoidberg'', a crustacean‑like alien functioning as the company’s physician; and ''Amy Wong'', a wealthy engineering student who serves as the organisation’s long‑term intern.
