== Summary ==

Amanda, an immortal thief, steals a cache of valuable jewels, only to discover that the fence she intends to sell them to has been robbed and murdered. When the police arrive, she becomes the prime suspect. The investigation is led by Lt. Nick Wolfe, who initially believes Amanda may be responsible, until he realises that none of her previous robberies have ever involved violence, and that she would never be careless enough to leave the murder weapon in her own apartment. Amanda receives support from her friend Lucy, who tries to shield her as the evidence against her mounts.

Convinced she is being framed, Amanda goes on the run while attempting to uncover the identity of the real killer, who soon strikes again. Nick eventually deduces that one of five police officers must be responsible. After briefly suspecting his partner, he discovers that another officer present at the crime scene has been committing the robberies. Amanda reaches the same conclusion after speaking with an Immortal acquaintance who was “killed” by the thief and recognised the assailant’s voice. She follows the corrupt officer and ultimately intervenes to save Nick, who has just uncovered the truth.

In the final confrontation at an abandoned warehouse, Nick’s partner is killed, and Amanda is fatally wounded. While Nick grieves over his partner’s death, Amanda revives before his eyes, leading him to suspect that she cannot die. At the funeral, Nick realises that the police intend to conceal the misconduct of the corrupt officer and keep the scandal out of the press. Disillusioned, he resigns from the force.
