''Dr Liz Shaw'', formerly a scientific adviser to the ''Doctor'', serves as the head of ''P.R.O.B.E. (Preternatural Research Bureau)'', a specialised division of the police tasked with investigating anomalous, supernatural, and unexplained phenomena.

In The Zero Imperative, Shaw examines a series of unnatural deaths and disturbances centred on a psychiatric hospital that has narrowly avoided closure. ''The Devil of Winterbourne'' follows her inquiry into a ritualistic killing and alleged occult practices at Winterbourne Public School. In ''Unnatural Selection'', Shaw investigates a succession of mutilated corpses linked to ''Project BEAGLE'', a defunct research programme from the 1970s dedicated to accelerating human evolution. ''Ghosts of Winterbourne'' returns Shaw to Winterbourne Public School at the start of a new term, where events appear to be repeating themselves under increasingly unsettling circumstances.

The series has no broadcaster as it was a Direct to Video series.
