== Summary ==

The serial follows ''Professor Bernard Quatermass'' of the ''British Experimental Rocket Group'', who is called upon to investigate a series of unusual meteorite showers occurring across the country. His inquiries gradually reveal a covert programme of ''alien infiltration'' operating within key institutions of the British government. As the influence spreads, several of Quatermass’s closest colleagues fall under ''extra-terrestrial'' control.

With conventional avenues of resistance compromised, Quatermass is compelled to employ his own experimental rocket prototype, an unsafe craft previously responsible for a nuclear accident at an Australian test range, in a final attempt to halt the alien takeover. The mission represents both a scientific gamble and a last resort to prevent the subjugation of humanity.
