Summary
Set several decades in the future, the narrative depicts a society transformed by a major breakthrough in medical science: a regenerative treatment capable of halting the ageing process. As a result, human lifespans routinely exceed one hundred years, and the oldest living individual has reached 169. These developments have reshaped social structures; all citizens under the age of thirty are legally classified as minors, and global overpopulation has become a significant and persistent concern.
The story follows Darius Asram, a 119‑year‑old police officer, and Christa, an emotionally unstable young woman with a history of suicidal behaviour. Together, they investigate a case involving seven youths who have collectively taken their own lives under unexplained circumstances. The central mystery concerns why individuals who, in principle, possessed near‑limitless lifespans would choose such an act. Christa, the sole survivor of an earlier mass suicide, is believed to hold crucial insight into the motivations behind these events, and Asram hopes her experiences will illuminate the emerging pattern.
Their inquiry ultimately leads them to an underground organisation composed of radicalised young people who reject the societal order created by regeneration. This group increasingly engages in acts of rebellion, positioning themselves in opposition to a world in which extended longevity has redefined age, authority, and personal autonomy.
