Summary
The story follows Captain Marvel as he pursues the Scorpion, a master criminal intent on assembling a matter‑transformation device using ancient crystals recovered by a scientific expedition. During that expedition, young Billy Batson receives the magical ability to transform into Captain Marvel by uttering the word “Shazam,” an acronym invoking the powers of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury.
In the film’s clever climax, the Scorpion—having witnessed Billy’s transformation—binds and gags him and demands to know the secret behind it. Billy signals his willingness to reveal the truth, is ungagged, speaks the magic word, and turns the tables to save the day.
