Summary
Airwolf takes its name from the series’ central element: an advanced, prototype helicopter developed by a covert U.S. government agency known as “the FIRM.” Designed to surpass all existing aircraft, Airwolf is capable of jet‑level speeds, global range without refuelling, extensive weapons systems, and sophisticated sensor technology capable of detecting detailed information such as ground‑vehicle fuel levels. The aircraft is stolen by its creator and transferred to Libyan control, prompting the government to recruit pilot Stringfellow Hawke to recover it. Hawke succeeds but refuses to return Airwolf until he learns the fate of his brother, St. John, who has been missing in action since the Vietnam War. While the FIRM investigates St. John’s disappearance, Hawke uses Airwolf to undertake missions against various threats.
Hawke is assisted by Dominic Santini, a former war comrade who operates Santini Aviation. Together, they confront terrorists, rogue scientists, and revolutionary factions—typically involving adversaries equipped with aircraft to facilitate an aerial pursuit or dogfight showcasing Airwolf’s capabilities. Their primary liaison with the FIRM is the enigmatic Archangel, recognizable by his distinctive white attire.
