Summary
Set in Los Angeles in 1995, the series centres on LAPD Detective Matt Sikes and his partner George Francisco, a member of the Tenctonese, an alien population whose slave ship crashed in the Mojave Desert three years earlier. While Sikes is a seasoned, impulsive officer, Francisco is thoughtful and analytical, becoming the first Tenctonese detective in the department.
The Tenctonese, humanoid in appearance but biologically distinct, struggle to integrate into human society and often face discrimination, including the derogatory label “Slags.” The series explores these tensions through the experiences of the Francisco family, who move into a predominantly human neighbourhood. Susan Francisco manages prejudice with patience, their daughter Emily adapts to being the only Tenctonese student at her school, and their son Buck resists assimilation, gravitating toward a Newcomer youth gang.
