Summary

Spider‑Man centres on Peter Parker, a college student who acquires superhuman abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. The incident grants Parker enhanced strength, a precognitive “spider‑sense” that alerts him to imminent danger, and the capacity to adhere to vertical surfaces. He subsequently designs a mechanical web‑shooter, enabling him to traverse the city by swinging between buildings and to immobilise criminals. Adopting a distinctive costume, Parker undertakes a clandestine career as the masked vigilante Spider‑Man.

Despite his efforts to combat crime, Spider‑Man is frequently portrayed negatively in the press, largely due to the editorial stance of J. Jonah Jameson, the editor of the newspaper for which Parker works as a freelance photographer. Jameson’s persistent criticism contributes to widespread public suspicion of the hero, a sentiment shared by Parker’s elderly Aunt May. Within the newsroom, Jameson’s secretary, Rita, often advocates on Parker’s behalf. In the programme’s second season, the cast is expanded with the introduction of Julie Masters, a fellow freelance photographer who becomes Parker’s professional competitor.
