Summary
A returning satellite introduces a highly lethal extraterrestrial microorganism to Earth, resulting in the near‑instantaneous death of an entire town’s population. Subsequent investigation identifies two anomalous survivors—a newborn infant and an elderly man—whose resistance to the pathogen is considered critical to understanding its biological mechanisms. A specialised scientific team transports the survivors to a secure subterranean research facility, where they undertake a controlled study of the organism. The team is required to determine the basis of the survivors’ immunity and develop an effective countermeasure within a limited timeframe to prevent a potential global‑scale outbreak.
