Summary
An unidentified extraterrestrial object, described as a large Möbius‑strip‑shaped structure, arrives on Earth and subsequently generates a crystalline tower extending from its surface. Erik Wallace, a senior scientist with the United States Interstellar Command (USIC), is assigned to initiate communication with the artifact and assess its origin and purpose.
Concurrently, Wallace’s wife, Captain Niko Breckinridge, leads the interstellar vessel Salvare—its name derived from the Latin salvare, meaning “to save”—on a mission to determine the provenance of the object and establish contact with the species responsible for its deployment. The Salvare is equipped with faster‑than‑light (FTL) capability and transports the majority of its personnel in suspended‑animation pods, referred to in the series as soma, allowing crew members to be awakened only when operationally required.
