Summary
Set in the near future, the narrative centres on the impending launch of the Odyssey II space rocket, scheduled to undertake a significant exploratory mission. In the days preceding the launch, five teenagers gain unauthorised access to the spacecraft, motivated primarily by curiosity.
During their intrusion, a malfunction occurs within the Matilda on‑board computer system. The error triggers an unintended early launch sequence, propelling the Odyssey II into space with the teenagers still aboard. Unable to return to Earth, the group must assume responsibility for completing the mission originally assigned to a trained adult crew.
While their families on Earth experience profound concern, the unexpected voyage becomes a formative and extraordinary adventure for the young passengers, who must adapt rapidly to the challenges of space travel and the operational demands of the mission.
