Summary
The series centres on Giles Gordon, who enrols at Atlantis High School after relocating to Sunset Cove with his mother, whose occupation remains shrouded in secrecy. The town is characterised by a proliferation of unexplained phenomena, many of which appear to converge on the school and its unusually eccentric population of teachers and students. Among them is Mr Dorsey, a science instructor who is, in fact, an alien with a penchant for consuming rodents.
Giles’s attempts to navigate this environment are complicated by his infatuation with Octavia, the daughter of Commander Vermont, the ineffectual head of a secret‑service unit investigating the town’s anomalies. Octavia, however, is romantically fixated on Josh, the school’s head boy, who secretly operates as a pink‑lurex‑clad superhero.
Overhead, extra-terrestrial observers maintain constant surveillance of Sunset Cove, awaiting an opportunity to launch an invasion. When they finally attempt to do so, they are immediately miniaturised and end up confined to the surface of a beach ball.
