Summary
The series originally centred on Sgt. Garner Ellerbee (Gregory Alan Williams), the long‑standing Baywatch police officer who, amid a midlife crisis, resigns from the force to establish a private detective agency. He is soon joined by his friend Mitch Buchannon (David Hasselhoff), whose support becomes integral to the fledgling operation. They are later partnered with Ryan McBride (Angie Harmon), a skilled and resourceful detective.
For the second season, declining ratings, never matching those of the original Baywatch, prompted the producers to shift the series into a science‑fiction format, influenced by the rising popularity of The X‑Files. Gregory Alan Williams departed, and Dorian Gregory joined the cast as Diamont Teague, a specialist in paranormal phenomena. The retooled concept failed to improve viewership, and the series was cancelled at the end of its second season. The character Donna Marco was subsequently integrated into the main Baywatch series.
