Summary
Between is a drama series set in the small community of Pretty Lake and its surrounding rural district, where a sudden and unidentified pathogen causes the death of all individuals aged twenty‑two and older. The resulting demographic collapse places the area under government‑imposed quarantine, creating a ten‑square‑mile isolation zone. The narrative examines the social, political, and logistical consequences of this containment, including the emergence of a power vacuum, attempts by residents to escape despite the risk of global transmission, and the broader implications of an adolescent and young‑adult population becoming the sole governing force within the community.
One of the central figures is Charles “Chuck” Lott, a privileged youth from the town’s wealthiest family and a former member of the school hockey team. Following the deaths of all adults, including his father Charles Lott Sr., a major landowner who controlled a significant portion of the town’s assets, Chuck assumes a leadership role among the surviving population, which includes several of his siblings. Lott Sr. dies during the initial outbreak and appears posthumously as a corpse in the second episode.
