Summary

BATEA was a short‑lived television adaptation of the Bill & Ted film franchise, which introduced the characters William “Bill” S. Preston, Esq., and Theodore “Ted” Logan—two underachieving San Dimas teenagers destined to form the rock band Wyld Stallyons. In the films, their music becomes the foundation of a utopian future society, prompting the future elders to send Rufus back in time with a time‑travel phone booth to ensure the boys pass their history class and fulfil their role in shaping history.

The TV series, featuring a new cast, is set during Bill and Ted’s high‑school years. The Wyld Stallyons exist but have not yet achieved fame, and the boys work part‑time at World of Nails, overseen by the ambitious manager Mr. Keilson. Rufus continues to supervise them, while the phone booth gains additional abilities, including transporting people into television shows—and, in the unaired pilot, into books.

The series also reinterprets supporting characters, including Missy Preston, Bill’s young stepmother, who in this continuity has divorced Ted’s father and married Bill’s.
