Summary
The spaceship Marco Polo is en route back to Earth following a mission to the newly discovered planet Rossum. During the return voyage, the five‑person crew remains in deep‑sleep suspension. While the ship is on automatic operation, a mysterious figure is briefly detected on one of the surveillance monitors, prompting the crew to be awakened.
Upon emerging from stasis, the crew discovers that one of their number has been murdered. Their situation deteriorates further when they realise that an unknown life‑form is aboard the vessel, capable of assuming the appearance of a crewmember. With no certainty about who is human and who is the intruder, the survivors must determine the creature’s identity before it eliminates them one by one.
