Summary
A global cataclysm, triggered by a catastrophic malfunction during the activation of a particle accelerator in Geneva, Switzerland, results in the near‑total submersion of the Earth’s landmasses. In the aftermath of the disaster, the crew and students of the barque school‑ship Estrella Polar (North Star) find themselves isolated within a newly formed post‑apocalyptic oceanic world.
The vessel becomes their primary habitat and operational base as they attempt to navigate the transformed environment. Their isolation is soon complicated by the discovery of additional survivors, referred to collectively as “the others”, whose presence introduces new threats, uncertainties, and shifting power dynamics.
