Summary
A New Zealand adventure drama centred on teenager Jenny, who discovers a metallic fragment during a holiday visit to the Tarawera volcano. The object functions as a visual recording, depicting a spacecraft crashing to Earth. Jenny soon meets Tesse, the hotelier’s daughter, and Lloyd, a local boy, who possess similar fragments. When combined, the pieces form an artefact known as the fire key. The trio are attacked by the Guardian, an invisible sentinel whose ominous refrain is “I will always be”, before the key guides them to a concealed pod behind a waterfall. Inside lies Drom, the sole survivor of a vessel from the constellation of Andromeda, awakened by the reassembly of the key.
Drom reveals that he is attempting to rescue the remnants of his ancient people, a civilisation that departed Earth millions of years earlier following an interstellar conflict and now seeks refuge as their home world collapses. Their return is blocked by “the gun”, the active Tarawera volcano, whose eruption would annihilate Earth. The fire key is capable of disabling the gun, but the Guardian, programmed centuries earlier to defend it—stands in the way. Jenny and her companions must aid Drom in overcoming the Guardian before the volcano triggers a catastrophic eruption.
