Summary
The Boy from Space (1971) is a science‑fiction serial produced as a unit of the BBC Schools television programme Look and Read, designed to support language and reading development for primary‑age pupils. The story was presented in instalments alongside classroom‑focused teaching segments, combining narrative drama with literacy instruction as part of the BBC’s educational broadcasting output during the 1970s.
The series centred on siblings Dan and Helen, who construct a makeshift observatory in their garden shed and witness a mysterious object descending from the sky. Their investigation leads them to a small blue extra-terrestrial child whose electronic, unintelligible speech prompts them to name him Peep‑Peep. The alien is being hunted by the Thin Space Man, a sinister figure armed with a ray gun and intent on capturing him. With assistance from their kindly astronomer friend, Mr Bunting
