Summary
The chapterplay follows the four daughters of scientist Dr. Horatio Scraggs (Girard), each of whom has been marked with an invisible identifying sign that becomes visible only upon reaching adulthood, at which point they are eligible to inherit his substantial fortune, concealed in a secret location. The principal antagonist is the family’s lawyer (Dyer), while the daughters, most notably Marion (Gerber), seek the assistance of Alphabet Drake (Wilson) in locating the hidden gold before the lawyer can obtain it.
An example of the serial’s characteristic melodramatic excess appears in Episode Ten, in which Dyer and an allied scientist develop a “ray of destruction” capable of annihilating the human race. Drake ultimately disables the device. The narrative concludes with the villain’s death and the implied future marriage between Drake and Marion.
