Summary
The series centres on John, who is transported from the Savage Lands to New London, a society whose citizens adhere to an anti‑monogamous, anti‑individualistic, and hedonistic way of life. His mother, Linda, facilitates their escape from the Savage Lands but dies during the attempt. Although motivated by a desire to secure a better future for her son, John’s presence in New London proves destabilising; his influence challenges the population’s conditioned acceptance of the society’s rigid and ethically questionable caste hierarchy, ultimately contributing to its collapse.
In the aftermath of New London’s disintegration, the city’s governing artificial intelligence, Indra, now operating through John’s former friend Bernard, assumes the authority to reshape the Savage Lands by imposing New London’s civilising principles. Concurrently, John’s former partner, Lenina, is elevated to a leadership role tasked with introducing elements of “savagery” into New London, symbolically reversing the cultural dynamic between the two societies.
