Summary

Brick Bradford is assigned by the government to assist Doctor Gregor Tymak, a scientist developing an advanced Interceptor Ray intended to neutralise incoming rockets. Because the device is also capable of functioning as a lethal energy weapon, it attracts the attention of foreign espionage operative Laydron, who seeks to obtain it for hostile purposes.

Tymak evades criminal agents by activating his experimental door into the fifth dimension, which transports him to the far side of the Moon. This lunar region, depicted as a breathable, rocky landscape devoid of craters, proves hostile. Tymak is captured by the autocratic Queen Khana, who sentences him to death by freezing at absolute zero after refusing to believe he originates from Earth.

The narrative shifts to the Moon when it is revealed that the Interceptor Ray requires a rare element, Lunarium (atomic mass 200), previously known only from a meteorite sample. Brick Bradford and his allies join forces with political exiles living in the lunar wastelands, ultimately overthrowing Queen Khana’s regime and securing the Lunarium needed to complete the device.

However, the ray’s activation also depends on a scientific formula hidden on an uncharted island two centuries in the past. Brick and his companion Sandy Sanderson therefore travel through time using Tymak’s spherical time machine, the Time Top, to recover the missing information. The concluding portion of the serial returns to contemporary Earth, where Brick must once again contend with the machinations of the spy Laydron.
