Summary

In the year 2106, the Philippines has become the global centre of advanced research in cloning, genetics, and robotics. Amid this era, Captain B forces his wife, Mrs. B, and their young son Arell into a time machine to escape the soldiers of the General, the powerful head of Live Corporation. The General has created an army of engineered superhumans for his own purposes, an agenda Captain B opposes using the rare element barbanium.

Unbeknownst to them, the General dispatches Commander X, a formidable cyborg, to destroy the barbanium with askobar. The time machine is programmed for 1992, but after a crash landing, Arell is separated from his mother and discovered by an elderly couple, Lolo Aloy and Lola Melay. They rename him Potenciano, or Teng, and raise him within their family.

Teng grows up frail, impoverished, and mistreated by his foster relatives, marked by a pockmark that fuels his sense of isolation. He finds solace in his friends Kit, Bobby, and Lola Melay. As he matures, Teng reconnects with his childhood friend Leah, though her arrogant boyfriend Jared complicates his feelings. He also befriends Levi, son of the wealthy Viel, unaware that Viel is responsible for Lolo Aloy’s death.

One night, Jared and his group assault Teng and leave him in a junkyard. There, Teng discovers a mysterious barbell, the object that unlocks his destiny as the legendary Filipino superhero Captain Barbell.
