Summary
This series is loosely inspired by Captain Future, the pulp science‑fiction franchise created by the influential American author Edmond Hamilton. Hamilton’s work has been adapted in Japan on multiple occasions. In 1978, Toei Dōga produced the official anime adaptation of Captain Future, while that same year Tsuburaya Productions developed a live‑action tokusatsu science‑fiction series based on his Starwolf novels.
The series follows Captain Ultra and his companions, Joe and Huck, as they confront a succession of threats originating from the planet Vandel and its fleet of invading spacecraft. When the Space Patrol’s orbital observation satellite detects an unidentified formation approaching Earth at high velocity, the organisation initiates a defensive response, dispatching Captain Ultra to intercept the intruders. The production is noted for its emphasis on space‑combat sequences and its depiction of the Space Patrol’s ongoing efforts to protect the Solar System from external aggression.
