Summary
The series set in 2030, follows the legal team of Crane, Constable, McNeil & Montero, a prominent law firm led by its four senior partners. At its head is the firm’s founder and senior partner, Hannah Crane, alongside veteran attorney Marty Constable, the self-assured and often self-satisfied Darwin McNeil, and Tom Montero, a former Congressman from California who joins the firm as its newest partner.
The firm specialises in cases that explore the legal and moral consequences of emerging technologies. One case involves parents suing a physician accused of withholding vital information revealed through the genetic mapping of their unborn child. Another centres on a man charged with robbery after attempting to reclaim his own digitised identity from his former fiancée, who had uploaded and retained a copy of his personality.
The attorneys also defend the rights of a woman subjected to a form of virtual sexual assault facilitated through nanotechnology. In another case, the firm attempts to enforce a contractual agreement involving a rock musician who refuses to undergo a dangerous anti-ageing treatment designed to preserve his band’s commercial success.
