Summary
A series of mysterious crises befalls the city of Chang'an, including a virulent contagion that transforms its victims into zombie-like beings, the discovery of ominous subterranean caverns, and the re-emergence of legends surrounding ancient treasures said to have reached the heavens thousands of years ago. As these extraordinary events threaten the stability of the city, hidden forces begin to move behind the scenes, giving rise to increasingly dangerous conflicts.
At the centre of the story are the Taiping defenders, led by Ma Long, who dedicate themselves to protecting Chang'an from both human and supernatural threats. As they confront rival factions and navigate a web of competing interests, they repeatedly find themselves drawn into perilous and unpredictable situations.
Through a succession of strange investigations and dangerous adventures, the group uncovers clues connected to the city's many mysteries. As the scope of the crises expands, Ma Long and his allies must unravel long-buried secrets and confront the unknown forces responsible for the extraordinary events unfolding around them.
