Summary

The Jenner Clinic, located in remote Yorkshire, operates publicly as a fertility centre assisting childless couples such as the Foresters. In reality, the clinic conceals a programme of illicit experimentation that has produced Chad, a hybrid organism combining human and ape characteristics.

The facility is destroyed one night in a violent explosion, and both staff and patients are killed by a perpetrator exhibiting superhuman strength, who subsequently escapes onto the Yorkshire moors. As local police officer Schaffer (portrayed by George Costigan) launches an official investigation, journalist Carson, the boyfriend of a nurse who worked at the clinic, begins his own inquiry into the incident.

Carson is assisted by research scientist Allison Wells, who was absent on the night of the massacre and is now the only individual who knows the killer’s true identity. Her motives, however, remain uncertain. Opposing their efforts is Hennessey, a ruthless government operative determined to orchestrate a cover‑up. He deploys military forces to track down Chad, whose intelligence proves far greater than authorities initially assume.
