Summary
After the death of his parents at the hands of marauding Vanir raiders, Conan was taken into captivity and condemned to labour at a grist mill, where he remained throughout his youth. Upon reaching adulthood, he was purchased by a Hyrkanian pitmaster who travelled with a troupe of professional fighters, staging gladiatorial contests for the entertainment of the Vanir and their northern neighbours, the warlike Aesir.
Years of relentless physical toil endowed Conan with a formidable, Herculean physique and a fierce, untamed temperament. Eventually escaping his captors, he journeyed to Arenjun, a notorious stronghold of thieves, sorcerers, and illicit trade. Suspicious of sorcery yet driven by boldness and ambition, Conan soon established a reputation as a daring adventurer whose exploits would become the stuff of legend.
