Summary
In the series Coyotl, Hero and Beast, the narrative follows Lupe, a young resident of the northern Mexican town of La Moneda, where rising violence between competing drug cartels destabilises the community. After a period of relative calm maintained by influential local figures such as the rancher Don Neto, the arrival of a new mayor alters the political balance by aligning with external criminal interests, intensifying territorial conflict among rival cartels.
Lupe discovers that he possesses the supernatural ability to transform into Coyotl, a coyote‑like creature derived from regional folklore. As cartel hostilities escalate, he begins to develop and control this power, positioning himself as a reluctant defender of his family and hometown. The central narrative examines Lupe’s struggle to reconcile his human identity with the primal instincts of his transformed state, while confronting the external pressures of organised crime and broader U.S.–Mexico border tensions.
Across the season, the storyline progresses from Lupe’s initial uncertainty to a more deliberate commitment to communal protection, culminating in a decisive confrontation that tests the limits of his abilities. The series emphasises themes of identity, resilience, and moral responsibility, presenting a blend of folkloric superhero elements and realistic depictions of cartel violence in rural Mexico.
