Summary
In 2009, the genetically engineered supersoldier X5‑452 escapes from the secret government programme Manticore along with eleven other children. Months later, a terrorist‑triggered electromagnetic pulse devastates the United States, collapsing its technological infrastructure.
By 2019, X5‑452, now Max Guevara, lives in a struggling, post‑Pulse America while searching for her fellow escapees and avoiding Manticore’s attempts to recapture her. She becomes involved with cyber‑journalist Logan Cale, known as Eyes Only, helping him expose corruption as their relationship deepens.
Max works as a courier at Jam Pony and occasionally encounters other X5s, including her former unit leader Zack. Manticore’s pursuit is led by Colonel Lydecker, who is eventually betrayed by his superior Elizabeth Renfro and defects to help Max and Zack.
In the season finale, Max is critically injured during an assault on Manticore. Zack sacrifices himself so she can receive his heart and survive.
