Summary
This serial, adapted from Jacques Futrelle’s novel The Diamond Master, introduces a significant narrative departure by relocating much of the action to South Africa and placing a heroine, Doris Harvey, at the centre of the story. Portrayed in a Pearl White–style adventure role by vaudeville acrobat Sedgwick, Doris undertakes a series of perilous exploits in her quest to undermine a powerful diamond cartel.
Motivated by a desire to avenge the death of her father, whose financial rivals were responsible for his demise, she seeks to destabilise the cartel by flooding the market with artificial diamonds. These synthetic gems are produced by Professor Ramsey (Smith), while romantic interest is provided by Mark Allen (Chesebro), a young millionaire travelling on safari.
