Summary
Doom Patrol follows a group of unlikely heroes whose extraordinary abilities stem from catastrophic personal tragedies, leaving them ostracised from society. Most members were treated and sheltered by Niles Caulder, a brilliant but morally ambiguous medical doctor who offers them refuge in his mansion while attempting to shield them from a world that fears and rejects them. Their team name is inherited from an earlier Doom Patrol assembled by Caulder, known as the Chief.
The first members introduced are Jane, the dominant personality of a woman with dissociative identity disorder whose many alters each possess unique powers; Rita Farr, a former actress struggling to control her body’s tendency to collapse into a gelatinous mass; Larry Trainor, a former pilot bonded with a sentient entity of negative energy; and Cliff Steele, a former race‑car driver whose brain was transplanted into a robotic body after a devastating crash.
The team later expands with the arrival of Vic Stone, a cybernetically enhanced hero better known as Cyborg, and Madame Rouge, a shapeshifter with a complicated past and shifting allegiances.
