Summary
Three years ago, Earth began receiving repeated radio transmissions: “People of Earth, we are here to help. People of Earth, we are the Companions.” Soon after, seventy‑one aliens, calling themselves the Taelons, or “Companions”, arrived and established diplomatic relations with every major world capital. They offered advanced scientific and technological knowledge, rapidly eliminating famine and easing global tensions. Within a short time, they became an indispensable force in human affairs.
Not everyone accepted their benevolence at face value. A covert resistance movement formed, convinced the Taelons’ intentions were not as altruistic as they claimed. The group succeeded in placing one of their own, William Boone, inside the Taelon hierarchy. Appointed Head of Interspecies Relations, Boone was implanted with Taelon bio‑technology, giving him unprecedented access, and positioning him as a crucial operative for the resistance.
