Summary
Isherwood "Ish" Williams, having spent months in voluntary isolation, emerges to discover that a catastrophic and unexplained illness has devastated most of the global population. Confronted with the near‑total collapse of social structures, Ish initially attempts to maintain his solitary existence. However, as he encounters other survivors and recognises the necessity of collective effort, he gradually assumes a leadership role. His actions become central to the early organisation of a nascent community, marking the first steps toward rebuilding a functioning civilisation in the aftermath of worldwide societal failure.
