Summary
In the early twenty‑second century, the star ship Enterprise is launched on humanity’s first major deep‑space exploration initiative. Its mission is to explore unknown worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly expand humanity’s presence beyond previously charted space. Operating with technology and training only slightly beyond contemporary NASA capabilities, and supplemented by limited Vulcan knowledge of nearby stellar regions, the crew embarks on the earliest phase of what will become Starfleet’s long‑term exploratory legacy.
Serving alongside a Vulcan first officer and an alien chief medical officer, the Enterprise’s crew establishes the foundation for the distinguished lineage of starship commanders who will later helm vessels bearing the same name, including Robert April, Christopher Pike, James Kirk, John Harriman, Rachel Garrett, Jean‑Luc Picard, William Riker, Edward Jellico, and others.
