Summary

The series centres on five young residents of Io, the innermost of Jupiter’s major moons: Michael, son of a mining engineer; Kumiko, a gifted computer specialist; Gerard, the group’s self‑styled tough figure; his chocolate‑obsessed younger sister Anna; and Kingston, a bespectacled tunnel worker adept at navigating the moon’s subterranean passages.

Despite warnings from the eccentric Professor Ingessol, the colony’s administrator Duffy authorises an ambitious deep‑core drilling initiative intended to expand mining operations. The project destabilises Io’s fragile geology, triggering violent volcanic activity and causing the moon’s crust to fracture. With the colony rendered uninhabitable, the children and a small number of surviving adults evacuate to a derelict orbital station, hastily converting it into a functional, if unreliable, spacecraft for the long and hazardous journey back to Earth.

Their voyage is marked by continual crises: failing computer and life‑support systems, dwindling supplies, collisions with asteroid debris, and a final confrontation with a malfunctioning defence satellite that cripples the vessel. As the adults struggle to prevent the ship from spiralling into the Sun, the children undertake a desperate escape in a fragile space tug, racing to reach Earth and summon rescue.

Season 2

After their dramatic evacuation from Io, Michael, Kumiko, Gerard, and Anna, last seen in Escape from Jupiter, are reunited aboard the Icarus, a solar‑powered cruiser assigned to return them to their families on Ganymede, one of Jupiter’s major moons. What is intended to be a straightforward homeward voyage quickly becomes another sequence of hazardous encounters across the inner Solar System.

The Icarus suffers a catastrophic malfunction that forces a crash‑landing on Mars, leaving the children and crew scrambling to repair the vessel in an unforgiving environment. Their journey resumes only to be interrupted again when they inadvertently hitch a ride on a drifting asteroid, using its trajectory to conserve fuel but exposing themselves to further danger.

Complicating matters are two antagonists whose covert scheme threatens both the Icarus and everyone aboard. As their plot unfolds, the children find themselves racing against time to protect the ship, outwit the villains, and ensure the Icarus completes its long‑delayed passage back to Jupiter.
