Summary
Falling Skies opens six months after a devastating alien invasion of Earth. In the initial assault, the invaders disabled the global power grid, neutralised modern technology, annihilated the world’s militaries, and obliterated major cities and capitals. More than 90 percent of humanity was killed, leaving roughly 700 million survivors scattered across the planet and continually hunted by the occupying forces.
The alien hierarchy consists of several distinct species: mechanical combat units known as mechs; six‑legged creatures called Skitters, which appear to command the mechs; and the enigmatic Overlords, or Espheni, who serve as the architects of the invasion and the Skitters’ masters.
