Summary
The series follows a man whose perpetually sorrowful expression creates difficulties in both his personal life and professional career. While developing smartphone software designed to help users practise smiling, an accident grants his mobile phone extraordinary abilities and an affinity for extreme cold. The sentient device subsequently orchestrates a series of unusual incidents and near-disasters in an effort to provoke a smile from its owner, but each attempt proves unsuccessful.
As the story progresses, the reason behind the protagonist's inability to smile is gradually revealed. He is discovered to possess multiple personalities and is trapped within a recurring cycle of suffering. Confronted by different manifestations of himself enduring the same fate, he comes to understand the nature of his condition and the consequences of the endless loop.
Ultimately, the protagonist resolves to sacrifice himself in order to break the cycle and end the suffering. Moved by his selflessness and sense of justice, the superpowered mobile phone intervenes, enabling him to escape his fate and begin a new life.
