Summary
For centuries, the Makai Knights have served as humanity’s hidden guardians, defending the world from the predatory entities known as Horrors (Maju Horror). The latest heir to this lineage is Koga Saejima, a reserved and enigmatic young warrior who resides in an ancient fortress and wields the sacred Garo Blade. By rending the fabric of space, Saejima can assume the mantle of the Golden Knight Garo (Ōgon Kishi Garo), the ultimate form of the Makai order. This transformation is strictly limited to 99.9 seconds, after which the armour begins to destabilise and change.
The narrative follows Saejima’s ongoing mission to eradicate the Horrors, malevolent manifestations that prey upon human weakness. During one such encounter, he rescues a young woman, Kaoru, who becomes contaminated with Horror blood. According to Makai law, any human tainted in this manner must be executed to prevent a fatal and agonising decline that occurs within approximately one hundred days. Initially intending to use her as bait, Saejima gradually develops compassion for Kaoru as they live under the same roof, prompting him to seek a means of purification before her remaining time expires.
The series therefore centres on Saejima’s dual struggle: honouring the legacy of his father, the previous bearer of the Garo title, and navigating his evolving relationship with Kaoru while continuing to protect humanity from the encroaching threat of the Horrors.
