Summary
The first series centres on the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), long‑standing associates who have become habituated to one another’s company and to a comfortable existence on Earth as emissaries of Hell and Heaven respectively. Having mutually agreed that the hostilities between their realms should not impede their friendship, they are confronted with the announcement that Armageddon, the final confrontation between Heaven and Hell, is imminent. In response, they form an alliance to avert the rise of the Antichrist and preserve the earthly life to which they have grown attached.
The second series follows the unexpected arrival of the Archangel Gabriel at Aziraphale’s bookshop, stripped of his memories and unaware of his circumstances. Aziraphale and Crowley undertake to determine the cause of Gabriel’s condition while concealing him from both Heaven and Hell, each of which is intent on locating him.
Unusually the series did get an ending in the form of a one-off special, marked here as season 3.
