Summary

In the final 200 days before an asteroid is predicted to strike Earth on the 22 February 2026, South Korea descends into chaos. Martial law is imposed after violent unrest and an attempted coup, prompting wealthy citizens to flee while the remaining population faces shortages, rising suicide rates, criminal activity, and widespread exploitation.

In Woongcheon, four long‑time friends attempt to cope with the collapsing social order: Jin Se‑kyeong, a former teacher now volunteering at city hall; her fiancé, Dr Ha Yun‑sang, a geneticist stranded abroad during the initial riots; Captain Kang In‑a, struggling to maintain control of her military unit; and Father Woo Sung‑jae, who assumes responsibility for the parish after the senior priest disappears.

Se‑kyeong’s efforts to protect her former students uncover a human‑trafficking network run by escaped convicts and discharged soldiers, linked to an elitist organisation seeking to finance its escape from South Korea. Kang In‑a’s investigation confirms the same connections. Sung‑jae experiences a crisis of faith when he learns his superior has joined the organisation and stolen church funds. Yun‑sang is offered a place in the group’s evacuation plan due to the value of his research, but refuses to leave without Se‑kyeong, who remains committed to her students.

The friends discover that the organisation has arranged two aircraft for its members. Se‑kyeong, Yun‑sang, and Sung‑jae attempt to negotiate safe passage for trafficked children, but their efforts fail.
