Summary
Norton, a scientist specialising in the use of the lie detector, succeeds in exposing a thief who subsequently commits suicide in retaliation. Shortly afterwards, Mrs. Flora Sills, Dr. Norton’s neighbour, is mysteriously murdered in the laboratory. While conducting research on an experimental prototype of a lie‑detection device of his own design, Norton discovers that a Dracaena plant given to him by the woman responds to external stimuli to such an extent that it appears to exhibit emotional activity.
