Summary
In this adaptation, Dr. Lemuel Gulliver returns home after years missing and recounts his travels in a series of flashbacks while, in the present, he is confined to an asylum for supposed madness , a framing device absent from Swift’s novel. Although the miniseries follows the book closely, it alters the conclusion: rather than remaining obsessed with the Houyhnhnms and choosing to live among horses instead of his family, Gulliver ultimately recovers from his fixation and reunites with his wife and child.
Gulliver, found alive after years missing, recounts being shipwrecked in Lilliput, where he helps defeat Blefuscu before fleeing execution. At home, Dr. Bates has him committed, but Tom discovers proof his story is real. Gulliver then describes reaching Brobdingnag, where giants display him as a curiosity, court politics turn against him, and an eagle eventually carries off his travel box, leaving him adrift until a floating island appears overhead.
