Summary

On 7 February 2556, Jameson Locke participates in a United Nations Space Command operation on Sedra to investigate reports of renewed Covenant activity. During a covert mission, Locke and a detachment of Office of Naval Intelligence operatives attempt to stop a rogue Sangheili from deploying an unidentified device. Their intervention fails, resulting in the detonation of a biological weapon engineered to target humans exclusively.

Locke’s subsequent investigation traces the origin of the bioweapon to a surviving fragment of Installation 04. An ONI strike team, accompanied by Colonel Randall Aiken and a contingent of Sedran militia personnel, deploys to the fragment to locate the source. Although the joint force succeeds in apprehending two human smugglers, the team is ambushed during extraction by Thanolekgolo organisms and becomes stranded.

With their D81‑LRT Condor dropship disabled, the surviving personnel attempt to reach the smugglers’ tug vessel. The tug is capable of carrying only two passengers, forcing the group to divide: Locke, Aiken, and militia member Macer form one party, while two ONI operatives accompany the remaining smuggler. Locke’s group locates the crashed Condor, which is barely capable of limited flight.

Recognising the necessity of destroying the fragment, Aiken volunteers to remain behind and manually detonate the nuclear ordnance. Locke and Macer use the damaged Condor to reach the tug and escape the Halo fragment moments before its destruction.
