Summary

The Henderson family is portrayed as a typical suburban American household living in the Pacific Northwest. The family consists of George Henderson, his wife Nancy, and their two children, Ernie and Sarah. In both the feature film and the subsequent television series, Harry is depicted as a Bigfoot whom the Hendersons encounter during a camping trip and bring back to civilisation, ultimately forming an unlikely friendship with him.

In the film adaptation, the Hendersons eventually recognise that domestic life is unsuitable for a creature like Harry, leading them to return him to his natural habitat in the forest. The television series, however, diverges from this narrative. Rather than releasing him, the family keeps Harry in their home, resulting in frequent mishaps, including broken furniture, excessive food consumption, and various complications whenever neighbours, most notably the Glick family, catch glimpses of him or the chaos he leaves behind.

Harry’s existence becomes publicly known during the third season, transforming him into a minor celebrity and introducing a new range of comedic situations. Another significant development in the series is the arrival of Nancy’s brother, Brett, who joins George as a business partner in publishing an environmentally focused magazine. This storyline is introduced early in the second season.
