Summary
An unusual children’s series that employs the device of viewing the world through alien eyes to both entertain and educate pre‑school audiences. Its protagonist, Henry, is far from a typical space traveller: he arrives on Earth disguised as a dining‑room chair, tasked with observing human behaviour and reporting his findings to his superiors on the distant planet Holgon, known as Cosmics One and Two. Guided by his young friend Stephen, Henry compiles reports that are inevitably muddled, a clear case of upholstering the truth.
Fortunately for Henry, his superiors are hardly paragons of scientific rigour. Appearing at the end of each episode to receive Henry’s updates, they struggle even more to interpret his confused accounts than Henry struggled to understand Stephen’s explanations. They are also increasingly exasperated that Henry’s reports focus exclusively on humans, whom he refers to as “two‑legs”, and never on the supposed culture of Earth’s furniture.
Complicating Henry’s mission further is Tricia, Stephen’s younger sister, who knows Henry can talk but prefers to torment him rather than assist. Henry must also contend with the family cat, which treats him as a scratching post, and Stephen’s overweight Aunt Winnie, who has an unfortunate habit of sitting on him.
