Summary
Set in the town of Hemlock Grove, Pennsylvania, the series unfolds in a community marked by stark contrasts between wealth and poverty. The closure of the town’s steel mill years earlier left many residents unemployed, reshaping the local economy and deepening social divides. Today, the town’s primary employers are the Godfrey Institute for Biomedical Technologies and Hemlock Acres Hospital, institutions that dominate both its physical and cultural landscape.
The Godfrey Institute, rumoured to engage in sinister experiments, is overseen by the formidable Olivia Godfrey (Famke Janssen), whose influence permeates much of Hemlock Grove. Her brother‑in‑law, Dr. Norman Godfrey (Dougray Scott), serves as the lead psychiatrist at Hemlock Acres Hospital, positioning the Godfrey family at the centre of the town’s scientific, medical, and social power structures.
