Summary
During an extraordinary meteor shower, a hidden asteroid fragment strikes the Moon, embedding a dense, highly magnetized brown dwarf fragment within its core. As the Moon’s orbit destabilizes and moves closer to Earth, global electromagnetic disturbances escalate, causing widespread levitation events and revealing that a catastrophic Earth–Moon collision will occur in 39 days.
Scientists Alex Kittner, Maddie Rhodes, and Roland Emerson lead an international mission to the lunar surface to build a device capable of expelling the fragment and restoring orbital stability. Personal crises unfold on Earth as Roland’s fiancée Martine Altmann survives a levitating train disaster, and Alex’s children struggle to reach safety.
On the Moon, the device is activated after a fatal rover accident leaves Roland stranded; he sacrifices himself as the Moon fractures and ejects the fragment into the Sun. Alex and cosmonaut Sergei escape and return to Earth, where Alex reunites with his children and with Maddie.
