Summary
The series is set in a dystopian Milwaukee in 2074, where global bankruptcy, cascading crises, and climate collapse have dismantled traditional nation‑states. In the vacuum left by ineffective governments, powerful multinational corporations, such as MicroStrategy, have assumed de facto control, governing fortified enclaves known as Green Zones. Outside these corporate strongholds lie the Red Zones, vast territories marked by poverty, instability, and minimal or non-existent governance.
Ben Larson, a rising manager at Spiga Biotech, the world’s most powerful corporation, lives under an identity that is not his own. Publicly, he works for Elizabeth, the formidable and estranged mother of his wife, Laura. Privately, he is Aaron, a climate refugee from the Red Zone outside Milwaukee who has infiltrated the privileged Green Zone to find Elena, the childhood love he lost years earlier.
Aaron’s assumed identity grants him access to Spiga’s inner workings, but it also forces him into a precarious double life. Elena, trapped by circumstance, has become a high‑end escort serving senior Spiga executives at an exclusive brothel known as Arcadia. To reach her, Aaron must climb Spiga’s corporate hierarchy, gaining clearance layer by layer while evading the corporation’s increasingly intrusive security apparatus.
His ascent begins with ruthless calculation: he frames his superior, Chad, for stealing classified data, ensuring Chad’s removal and opening a path to the vacant senior position Aaron needs. As he manoeuvres through Spiga’s competitive environment, where paranoia is standard procedure and loyalty is a commodity, he must maintain the façade of Ben Larson with absolute precision.
Aaron’s mission is not solitary. He is aided by Theo, Elena’s brother who remains in the Red Zone, and Reed, another refugee who successfully established a Green Zone identity years earlier. Together, they navigate the dangerous divide between the corporate elite and the desperate masses outside its borders, working to outpace Spiga’s surveillance and secure Elena’s freedom.
